Pinus Edulus Pinyon Pine Tree From Seed Germination AZ NM High Desert Bonsai Forest
Tips, Tricks
Here I am planting a couple hundred Pinyon Pine tree seeds. I bought them off eBay, from a New Mexico seller who gathered the seeds on his land in September. I cut a tiny piece off the tip of the seed, then soak them in water for 1-2 days. I use a mix of peat moss and top soil and keep them moist in 5 inch deep pots. Germination is usually about 50%. The seedlings will be taken to my property up north in early spring. I own 5 acres at about 6,000 feet. Note, I said "Fill up the tub with water". I meant to say fill to about 1-2 inches to be drawn up from the bottom of the pot. I will post a video in 2-3 weeks when they sprout. They are being germinated outdoors in partial sun. Shade cloth will be used to keep the birds away, they love sweet pine nuts. Please see my other videos, I also ordered 500 Japanese Black Pine tree seeds, and will be planting them soon. Thanks, and have a nice day......Keith in AZ

What end did you cut off of the seeds? Glad to see your other update video showing that you did get nearly half germinated. I'll also need to research about male/female traits, since we're after the female parts for eating...

I just had one Pinyon seedling pop up in my garden planter. I took the top soil from an alluvial area around Flagstaff where I live, so I wasn't taken aback when it popped up, but now I want to take care of it, so I will be looking forward to updates. Thanks.
