Dude cut your fingernails that's just gross !!!!

Why do you remove all those branches? Is that because they are weak and not worth having?
-
thank you for all the invaluable tips!
-
Why did you take out branches? I know you put them in water, but is there any other reason? I have a lot of branches in the middle of my plant that seems to me, that is stopping the circulation and sun from getting to the tomatoes. Should I remove some? TFS Kris

no one got that.

first, it depends what type of tomato you have, some have a small determinate size that I prefer to leave alone. It also depends if you are training it up a 6' stake (remove suckers) or letting it spawl out on the ground or large cage(leave suckers). Branches grow out of the main stem at a 90 degree angle, suckers grow out of that intersection at a 45 degree angle and can make tomatoes, a branch is just leaves, try both ways. I only top my plants in fall when I want to stop production and ripen.

I enjoyed watching the electric toothbrush. I always told people that asked me how to cross pollinate, and I would tell them to use a Q-tip to go from one bud to the next. Works well, but very tedious! I love this idea!

Can this be done on any annual herb ?

removing "side shoots" aka SUCKERS, is merely removing possible future fruit... Your killing your harvest by removing suckers. your suppose to remove the LEAVES of the tomato plant, remember Toms are GREEN PLANTS
-
the reason he is removing the suckers (side-shoots) from the main stem is to reallocate the resources of the plant into producing fruit. Therefore, your tomato plant is more concerned with producing fruit than growing into a huge bush of leaves. Furthermore, like most plants that receive a small degree of stress, they will produce more fruit since they think they are dying and need to reproduce.
