Perennial Flowers Growing Lavender
Tips, Tricks
3 tips on how to successfully grow lavender by professional herbalist. Other tips can be found here http://www.youtube.com/user/headgardener2u/ on garden author Doug Green's perennial flower website. This amazingly fragrant herb is one of those plants that loves the full hot sunshine and well-drained rocky soils where this lavender farm is located. The lavender plant has been growing in herb gardens for centuries and used as an antiseptic, aphrodisiac and a range of other uses that may or may not be a reason to grow. The fragrance is one of the top 5 most-used fragrances in the world, adding its magic to all manner of products. Full sun, very well drained soils (clay soils kill this plant) and moderate climates for the most part. This garden is however in Canada and quite cold. Listen as the grower explains his techniques for overwintering this tender plant. The fun thing about growing lavender is there is no reason to spray it for anything - it's an organic gardeners best friend. So grow this herb for its fragrance as well as its culinary value (lavender cookies are to die-for!) :-) You can find me at G+ here https://plus.google.com/u/0/107836847806083557330/posts Facebook is here https://www.facebook.com/DougGreensGardening Twitter is here https://twitter.com/douggreen

I'm going to grow Lavender in Oregon ,Jackson Co. I have added the basic ground bark and potting soil to break up my clay . The local deer tried some flowers but otherwise mine are happy. 🌞

Prince Edward County is not the coldest place--there are vineyards and orchards there.

The soil is clay-like. I have some a house in my area have some beautiful lavender. Please tell me how to plant them in my area? I want the plants to flourish. Thanks

Hi, I bought some French Provence and English lavender. Could you please tell me how to amend my clay soil? I am in Austin, tx. Please tell me exactly what to buy and mix in what proportion. Thanks a ton.

I'm obsessed with lavender and it's my mission to have a few lavender garden in my yard.
My soil is medium clay. Do I need to add something to improve the drainage? If yes, what do you suggest? -Thank you -
Really great info ! Thanks for sharing this vid. I just planted 3 in my raised bed.

Thanks for the video! Can I ask if you know the variety that he is growing here? And also the location?

I understand about the volume. In this case, it was a spontaneous interview and we didn't have a mic for him. No remedy there unfortunately at this time. I'm working on the issue on future videos - and I'm finding that some computers don't have an issue while others do. No idea about that. But yes, working on it on future vids. :-)

Doug I love our videos however at times the volume is too low. This is a perfect example. Your voice is load and clear but the other is not. Some of the videos has only your voice are also very difficult to hear. I have the video volume as high as it will go and my computer volume is high. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks you do a great job with all the gardening info.

Talentlover2 - if the lavender doesn't have any roots, then it won't survive if you put it into the soil - no matter where you put it. :-( You have to get roots on it first and then the hole has to be twice the size of your roots in width and deep enough to plant without scrunching up the roots. Sorry for the bad news. :-(

I was given some Lavender and told to soak it in water for a week and a half, which I'm doing. But I am unsure of how deep to put the plants in the ground and how big the hole should be. This is Lavender that doesn't have roots, just the branch stems.

If you're talking a hedge, then 18-inches is fine. If you're talking production of flowers, then you may want to push that out to 24-inches.
-
In a row what should be the spacing between each bush? I'm talking about English lavender.

Wish I had seen this program before I planted the areas under the eaves of the house. lavender would grow great there with little upkeep. Keep up the good work!
