Organic Pest Control - Companion Planting With Garlic
Tips, Tricks
One of the easiest ways to deal with pests and insects in an organic manner is by companion planting. I have a few whiteflies and aphids that I am dealing with right now. I want to protect my tomatoes, so I am going to try companion planting garlic into the raised bed with them. Garlic is one many natural bug and insect repellents that include plants such as marigolds, basil, and nasturtium. Hopefully this will keep the pests away and remove the need for any spraying. Will it work? We're gonna find out.

hello, thank you for the wonderful video. Can i plant garlic next to beets, carrots, cucumbers, cauliflower?

I didnt know Nasturtium was a pest deterant. But I do know its edible so I may try growing some this year!

I use a combination of companion planting and natural products like Neem oil: http://www.saferbrand.com/store/outdoor-insect/5612

I heard ladybugs <3 aphids. I've just begun container gardening. Right now I have carrots, onions-yellow, white, & purple, sweet potatoes, russets, some spearmint that covers the bottom of a new lemon tree that's about 3 1/2' tall. My ginger root, that's planted w/ the lemon & spearmint, has just begun to sprout. I also have a pineapple on its way as well. Last night I planted some seeds of red, yellow, & orange mini sweet peppers that my daughter bought @ the store. Great video!

Thanks. Hopefully the Zombie deal won't happen any time soon.

Nice video . Actually garlic repels Zombies too. I don't have any in my garden : ) lol. Your tomato plants and soil look great. Beautiful set up. Thanks for the video. God bless.

LOL...exactly !

Yeah, I agree with his suggestion of fall planting. I'm in Missouri so my climate is pretty similar to yours, and I've always heard garlic does best when planted in the fall around here. I've done it for the past several years and they must be right--this year I've got 80+ healthy looking garlic plants going! I usually shoot for planting sometime around mid-October if that helps you any.

I get a lot of comments about my accent. I can't figure out why. :)

I love your accent! Reminds be of family.

I've never had a problem with them. But I think Neem would do a decent job.

Thanks for the tips! I have a bed where the garlic I planted last spring somehow survived the horrid drought here in Kansas & is doing great, also have some Borage coming back. I will plant a couple of the heirloom tomato seedlings I grew from seed that are HUGE in my south window, & see how they do!

I'm not sure. But I think you could still make it. If not, plenty of people plant garlic in the fall.

What an awesome idea! :-)

How about that. Coastal NC? My folks are from Mississippi. Attended university in Baton Rouge. I've always been interested in all the various southern dialects from various regions. Mississippi and Southern Louisiana despite being next to one another have completely linguistic deliveries. All the best.
-
Well... I was born in NC, and live in VA..... never been to LA. However, I know some mighty fine folks from down there. So to sound like them is just fine with me. ;)
-
Oh yeah. That's a Louisiana accent. Love it!
