Hi - I recently acquired some orchids. I gave them some water plus fertiliser. They were already in flower. Now 2 have shrivelled their flowers and dropped then. Plants appear ok. The third thankfully still has all its blooms and is looking happy. What should I do for the first two to get them flowering again? Thanks

thanks for sharing this video. I noticed to said to cut the spike at the bottom. some other youtubers say to cut it right after the the node where the bloom was. which one is correct?

Hello! Thanks for the helpful video.
I have been growing my first phalaenopsis orchid which is currently in process of repotting due to root rot (if I had just seen this video ahead of time haha).
I was wondering if there was a difference from store bought sphagnum moss and typical moss from the park.
I guess the store bought would have quality control (no pests or other bacteria? and already killed/dried). I was thinking the moss needed to be dried as it may compete for nutrients but I guess it doesn't matter all that much in reality? -
this waws very helpful! thank you!

seems to me from reading different things different places that all orchids are not going to thrive in the same way. Some must not be in sunlight or too much light...some roots have to be on top of the soil completely, some need this some need that. I guess Phalaenopsis are most common and tougher so a good starter orchid. I have jumped in full force to get different orchids.....it's confusing.

I a very nice tip for the pots. If you put extra ventilation holes around the sides of the pot, this gives the roots extra ventilation. All of my orchids stay in the pots they came in until they need to be upgraded, my oldest being 5 years my younges ones are all over 2 years.

You said to put it in a kitchen window in direct sunlight. Yet the directions on mine says a bright well lit area and NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT. Also it says to water it with 3 ice cubes once (1) a week. If you leave the roots hanging out of the pot, won't they dry out ??? shouldn't they have at least a light cover over them ???

Actually most orchids are epiphytes, not saprophytes.

Thank you so much for this video - I really try to care for my orchid, sadly today a petal was torn on one of the flowers and now I do not know whether I should remove the whole flower or leave it and I also can not find an information on how to remove a damaged flower - only leaves! Many thanks if anyone can help with this -
