Please share this with anyone involved in humanitarian efforts. Operation Self Sustainability is an on going environmental project by www.bridging-humanity.org that teaches others how to make useful things out of trash that can be sold so they can become self sufficient. For this episode we will show you some things you can do with empty egg shells. You will need 1 table spoon of ground egg shells, 1 teaspoon of hot water and 1 teaspoon of flour or plaster of paris. Also, the chalk we are making here is street chalk. If you want it to be like chalk board chalk, then add a teaspoon of ready mixed stucco or drywall. Egg shells are a wonderful source of calcium (so sprinkle some in your food) and also have lots of other uses. You can create artistic jewelry with eggs shells and collage broken vases for an intersting finish. In this video we demonstrate how to make chalk with egg shells. Instead of throwing away your eggs shells, clean them and then remove the collagen from the inside of the egg. Collagen looks like a translucent film that you can grab with your finger nail and gently peel off from the shell. You can use the collagen to make facial cream and to heal cuts and burns. For this chalk recipe you will need to crush about 6 egg shells until they become finely ground. Then mix 1 teaspoon of hot water and 1 teaspoon of flour with 1 tablespoon of the pulverized egg shell mixture. Mix together and then start shaping and rolling the mixture with your hands. Next, wrap the chalk mixture in a paper towel or in an empty toilette paper holder. Let it dry for a day or two and then peel the paper off. Note, if you want to make colored chalk just add a few drops of natural fruit and vegetable dyes to the mixture. Here is another tip. You can also sprinkle egg shells in your garden to work as a natural pesticide against slugs and other pests. These are just a few of the interesting things you can do with egg shells. Stay tuned for the next episode!
