OKRA PLANT WITH MULTIPLE STALKS 9-3-12
Tips, Tricks
I have been talking to imstillworkin about whether to prune okra plants or not. She is experimenting with some of her plants to test the prunning of okra. I told her that I had one that was naturally growing extra stalks. I made this video so she could see what my okra plant looks like. I actually have two that are doing the same thing. It has done this before and it is always on the west end of the row of okra. My rows run east and west and the west end gets more sun because it receives the setting sun and gets the full sun by 9:30 or 10:00 am. Three years ago the plant was 4 times as big as this one. It was huge. I saved seeds from that plant and took seeds for the next two years from the biggest okra plant I had and and planted them this year. I believe this plant was one of the few that grew from those saved seeds. I had to plant my okra 3 times before they all came up. I transplanted the ones that did come up from my saved seeds. Most in the row were from bought seeds this spring. I always save seeds from the largest and healthest plants that I grow. These two plants are not as tall as the rest. Hope it helps. Thanks Again!

I planted 2 kinds of okra this year Clemson Spineless and Emerald. The Emerald is more of a bush and has multiple branches. The Clemson Spineless has a single trunk and is taller. I wonder if you have different varieties of okra? Or maybe they cross pollinated when you saved your seed?
