Off Grid Living: HOW HARD IS OFF GRID LIFE? CAN YOU LIVE OFF A GARDEN ONLY?
Tips, Tricks
More Q&A about living off the grid. Many people have asked about sustaining on just your garden. In fact people are surprised when we tell them that YES we do go to the grocery store. And yes, i do have to buy somethings. How can that be when you are suppose to be living off the grid? THIS is the misconception we need to address. We arent removed from society, nor are we re moved from reality. AND reality is, no matter how self sustainable your homestead is..YOU GOTTA ISHOP!!! From items for the pantry in bulk...to things you cannot grow. Could we survive with no grocery store and those items..YES! BUT as long as its available most homesteads off the grid will indeed go to the store to supplement. IS that cheating? IF you dont live off grid...you cant judge that it is! So talk a walk with Starry as we answer those questions AND address...HOW MUCH ORK is involved in living off the grid? How hard is it??? ANOTHER huge misconception. Remember EVERY homestead is set up differently! We focused on living more of free and independent lifestyle which focused on NOT being enslaved to farm animals..crops that need to be harvested and cared for. THERE is a way to SET up a off grid homestead that doesnt have to be filled with daily chores and work!! BUT that has to be your decision! you have the power to plan how you live and how much work wil be involved. For us on our homestead we have lots of free time. And when we do work it isnt slave driven. Its fun productive and fruitful! So listen to our philosophy on this to!

Mr. Hilder said you go away for a week at a time and you have chickens in the mountains!! What about predators? We have chickens (we do not live in the mountains). One night as I walked up to close the door I was startled by a opossum coming out the door. Thankfully, he was not in there long enough to kill any of my chickens. Thank you for all you do and I'm praying for your quick healing.

Please tell me, do you have solar energy? How do you do laundry? That's the hardest thing about living off grid to me! We have a farm, are very self sufficient and am concerned about near future events. Have you addressed this or can any other Homesteader help me on this issue?

A lot of great info and encouragement in this video, thank you. I'm going to look into at least doing some solar power, and next year I want to try your BTE gardening and canning. I've never canned before, but I want to learn.

Starry is going to need our help, she has been in a bad accident. Details are
here: https://www.gofundme.com/starryhilder
A GoFundMe page was started on her behalf. Even $1 would go a long way to help her
during this crisis in her and her family's life. I created an email address that
I will share with Starry and her family, they will receive 100% of the proceeds
by using this address. I have listed the address at the hospital where you can
send cards or care packages on the GoFundMe page if you prefer send something
through the mail, just so everything is in one central location. Starry has a
daytime job as a nurse and needs our support to help with bills and running her
homestead while she is recovering. As you all know she also contributes
immensely to her homestead's upkeep and her contribution will be missed. If
everyone donates only $1 it will go a long way to help her keep things running.
If you can't donate but still want to help, here is a poster you can
print and share: http://tinyurl.com/j988m54
Here is
a link to an update video she posted yesterday: https://youtu.be/4Til0Cj-yKc

My hubby and I are debt free and got that way a year ago. Best year of our lives and now we have a home and 5 acres in the country that actually belong to us and not a bank. Praying for your speedy recovery girl and to hear more of your beautiful sermons soon.
