Mr Tomato Offers Tips on Growing Award Winners
Tips, Tricks
This is an article about the world record holder for number of pounds of tomatoes for a single plant. Charles Wilber obtained an average of 342 pounds per plant and there were four of them, totaling 1,368 pounds. Disney, on the other hand, boasts of having 32,000 tomatoes from one plant and so they might have 16,000 pounds or 8 tons from a single plant!

Good video. Since you hav hard water, you might want to add l amino acid to your irrigation. Will cause the metals to flake off and make them useable for nutrient uptake. Will unlock the calcium and phosphate bonds in your soil.
Save you money on fertilization. -
What a fantastic video. As usual Mr BackToConstitution made a simple enough subject become something special. Out of the many, many boring hours I subject myself to, watching Youtube videos, which rarely live up to their title; this one made it all worth while... fantastic.

Couple of points --
* Guinness only records what is submitted. Odd that Disney would not, just for the PR.
* Tomatoes can be treated as a perennial under the right conditions. That tomato 'tree' Disney has is (was) 3 years old. Been there seen it. Fact the typical green pepper plant can be grown as a perennial if you have the right climate. MHPGardener carried over some green pepper plants in a greenhouse and the fruits and yields were huge that second year.
* No defense of the USDuh, but they are reporting the national average of field grown crops. Optimize the conditions for a plant and one could easily get higher yields.

It's easy growing tomatoes in a warm climate with a long growing season. The best way I found is to dig a 2 ft. deep and 2 ft. long hole. Mix some compost and composted cow manure mixed with good dirt. Lay the plants horizontally and bury them up to the leaves. Water them with manure tea a few times a week. You'll have more than you can handle.

Tomatoes are cool. I use Tomatos to break down my kitchen scraps (since I don't have chickens). I just plant the tomato plants into he bottom of the container then add compost and a bit of dirt to cover it (to keep the flies off) and they fill up over the warm seasons then let it break down over the winter and in the spring I have 4 5 gallons of rich compost that are ready to be used in my garden or in other planters. Then the following spring I reload the containers and start the process over. Tomatoes have the ability to break down raw kitchen scraps directly without composting them first.
I've got my garden locked and loaded for the year. Planted out and ready to rock. I've designed the garden so I don't even have to water. It's sort of a fire and forget system. Look into Permaculture. Since you live in a desert setting, you can do some amazing things on your property. -
Yum.
