Making St Augustine Grass Plugs From Sod :: Palmetto St Augustine
Tips, Tricks
Before my big project I thought it would be a good idea to test out some plugging methods, including testing the viability of creating my own plugs from sod - creating a cost savings. But as you will see, my conclusion defies the logic. I also compare sod to actual plugs bought from the store to prove my conclusing. Here is the Yard Butler plugger I used: http://amzn.to/1WAp8cf It's says it is for Zoysia, but the package also mentions St Augustine and it worked very well for digging the right sized plug holes. Would you trust plugs from Home Depot or Lowe's?

Hi lawn care nut. I live in southern California and I want privacy in the backyard from both sides so neighbors will not be able to see me workout. What do you recommend as for bushes, plants that will grow side brick walls but will not attract little bugs or animals. Thank you

is there any hardware store that sells the yard Butler?

gotcha!

I HEARD that you can plant St. Augustine plugs in the middle of other types of grass already there or dying because St. Augustine will take over. Is this true? I live in Los Angeles, CA.

This helped out a lot. Sprayed my lawn for sod webworms only to find out there was Round Up in the bottom of it and lost 90% of my lawn. Time to plug!

How did it turn out?

why didnt you use vinegar and salt water with a little detergent to kill the weeds, organic and prob faster than that mini torch?

Wears steel toe boots and protective bibs to trim hedges but only flip-flops with a weed burner!! LOL
I am dominating my neighbors sodded yards thanks to this channel for some tips I picked up last year. Its cost me a lot of money to buy 4 truck loads of top soil plus seed, fertilizer and a lot of water. Its driving them nuts but I felt their pain when I moved in last year and they had freshly sodded yards and my builder i bought my house from left me with clay mud, weeds and a lot of straw.
If my dog would pee in their yards I would have a better yard but I am still dominating -
Should be called how not to make plugs, surely anybody knows sod is not a plug, did it really takes 13 minutes to tell us that

I gave up on the lawn and decided to learn to grow & eat the weeds in my back lawn. My neighbors removed their Bahia, (think we probably have the left overs from the former farm land) plugged their lawn with St. Augustine. After 2 years of working, working, working, they, took everything out & just put down thousand of dollars worth of sod, daily working & watering & pulling weeds. I must say my front lawn is green with curb appeal. Think of all the money I saved. All kidding aside, organic weed lawn /probably pasture grass & weeds in my rear yard, 1/3 acre that I am slowly doing away with. I am doing permaculture/no dig growing. My front is Bahia & some St. Augustine. The St. Augustine has runners (left overs from a former neighbor) along my fence lines which I need to remove and want to transplant. 1) Will it grow in partially shaded areas, like under my live oak tree? 2) Now for this senior lady how do I transplant these runners need to borrow your knowledge, I have a lot of these runners. 3) Can I plant it in pots and make my own plugs from the runner which have lots of roots? Thanks, enjoyed watching you work on making that corner beautiful thinking you could be growing edible weeds & having a nice free salad. Also, thanks for the jokes. You should be getting some sponsors with all that free advertising you gave those vendors..

I need that HAT ! Name and place of purchase please. Here's hoping your new lawn ends up looking even 50% as good as Indiana. Keep up the good work Dude.

Hi, so is it not necessary to sharpen the bottoms? Or did it improve the tool's ability to cut throw the grass and into the ground? Thanks.
