The apiary shown in the game is actually a historical primitive hive. Either the designers did their homework or they accidentally designed one that would look like one that could be found in Northern Europe / Georgia around 2000 BCE. The theory is that early hive masters found out that a favored place for wild honey bees was a hollowed out tree, sometimes one whose heartwood was already consumed by termites. The early hives were this simple a hollow log, sealed at the bottom. The arched top allows the bees to enter and leave the hive while protecting the hive from rain. To get the honey the top is removed and the bees are smudged.
