Hi California Gardening. Can you do a video on pandan.

Wow awesome 👍🏻 I wasn't aware about growing lemon grass.. good info thanks😊

I'm gonna grow some of this. Thanks for the video. I like to drop a six inch thick stalk, a thumb sized piece of ginger and turmeric, as many dandelions as I can find in my small yard, and about half a cup to fresh thyme, rosemary and fresh mint into a steam basket and let two gallons of water come to a boil and boil three minutes covered. Remove from heat and let sit several hours undisturbed or even over night. Makes an especially powerful astringent tea if you add a cup of fresh cranberries to that mix.
- If I have other herbs beginning to wilt that I think I might not eat then I throw a few of those in the basket as well. -
I own a small nursery and sell lemongrass in 3 gallon pots for 20.00. It's hard to keep in stock some times. I plant them in my vegetable garden for pest control and new stock. Zone 8. I do have to keep them covered on colder nights.

Knowledge

I bought 4 - 6" pots of lemongrass spring of 2016, w/about 6-10 plants in each. Planted as many as I could find place for, and still have 2 of the pots, and so many lemongrass plants, that I have no idea of what I'm going to do w/them. I have dried and frozen bunches, given away plants, and still have more than my husband and I will ever use. I'm the type of person who 'hates' to throw away good plants.
Any ideas on what to do w/so many extra plants, would be greatly appreciated.
I just wish my turmeric was growing as great. -

After harvesting, the grass that is not consumed can it be used as a mulch in the garden?
-
Thank you! I grew it for the first time this summer on my apartment roof deck in Washington
DC. It did great. We used some as a marinated for Vietnamese chicken, recipes are online. This is the one we used, and to give you an idea of ingredients used, here is the list. See the photo too. It was delicious. From Bon AppetiteMagazine..

Very informative, thanks. I live on the othe side of the world, so our seasons are in reverse, but we do get some lovely springs and summers. Is there a video on how to grow galangal, and would the technique be similar to growing ginger?
-
I grow lemongrass every year in zone 6. The plant gets about 3 to 4 feet high and is gorgeous. I harvest the leaves twice but I never get as beautiful stems as you. How do you chop up the leaves? Many times they will have a rib so you can't use a food processor to chop up. I have to cut mine with scissors which is a pain.

My father is allergic to lemon, so I use pulverized lemongrass for flavor substitute in recipes calling for lemon. I used to buy it in tubes at the grocery until they stopped selling it. I was wondering if I would be able to grow it myself and wondering also where to get it! Thanks for the video.

I love how the guy rolls his "R"s, especially when he says rrrrrrroots. XD

I love lemongrass for the beauty of the stalks. My 2 cats love to eat the thinner stalks as their "grass" when regular grass is not easily available. If I put the lemongrass by my door, it keeps the bugs from coming indoors -- obviously a plus! Although I haven't cooked with it yet, I will definitely learn how to do so after listening to your video. Many thanks for your informational video!
