try the many varieties of dried beans from the supermarket and health food stores! they grow and are very cheap ;)

Wow! That is wondeful! Those nasty ugly buggers have killed almost every one of my squash plants. I removed so many of them that they finally got the best of me and I pulled up all of the plants. Next crop of squash is going in the bed this weekend. Hopefully I can get them before they get me this time.

I hope that you actually have time for all of that stuff. The melons and the okra would be the real question marks? Good luck and let us know how it turns out! Chuck

Got okra very late in the year last year so you may make out. But it loves the heat. Plant it in May next year for best results if you decide to grow again.

Vine borers, I think I had some but, did nothing. Saw them in the Kakai Pumpkins and not since then. Maybe they left?

Cole crops, I wish, a little early for us yet. They would just burn up right now!

Maybe, we shall see....

We may be chancing it with watermelon depending on our first freeze this year. Avg First freeze here is Nov. 22 Thanks for watching!

Love Texas weather, we get two summer veggie planting and then plant for Fall. I planted okra in May. My first harvest paid for the plants. I harvest about 12oz a day. Please share if you have any plans on what you will do to keep vine borers out of the squash. I have had an on going fight with them all summer.

I tried to grow those yellow wax beans last year. It was a total fail. I think the hot weather killed them. I've soaked my okra seed before, and it does seem to speed up germination. They will be up in less than a week I bet. Since you are in Texas, I'm sure they will get plenty of heat, which they like. I'll be putting out my cole crops this weekend. It is too late for me to plant anymore warm season stuff here in NC. Good luck and thanks for sharing Brandon!

Brandon, it's pretty cool that you can plant now for a fall bean, squash, and watermelon harvest. With a first frost in October, my fall garden will be nothing but cold tolerant plants.

Do I see some canning in your future? Perhaps some beans? :)
-
I don't I just let nature do its thing. 100% organic, not one chemical. You could hand pick them out; I have heard some say. Or maybe diatomaceous earth?

How do you protect your squash from squash bugs?

Planting some great things! Beans are awesome fresh & each time I have tried to grow them...they start off good then eithin a couple weeks they turn yellow & die.

Looking really good! Lots of beans and peas - some of my favorites.
