Monday evening I decided it was time to plant some of my trees and put up fencing to protect them from deer and rabbits. It was about 7 in the evening when I decided to plant the trees. It was still nice out so I wanted to use the time and get them out there. I did not get them all planted yet though but I did get two apple trees and a pear tree planted. I cut some tree branches to use as stakes and pounded them into the ground in a square pattern around each tree. I ran chicken wire around the stakes to form a square protected area around the base of each tree. The fence is about 18 inches away from the tree at any point and it is 3 feet high. This should protect the trees from deer and rabbits. It looks nice with the trees out there now. I was not sure how it would look with the chicken wire but it looks good. I still have two trees to plant and then I have to put mulch around the base of each tree to provide moisture and nutrients for the growing trees. I finished planting my little trees at about 8:30 in the evening and went in for the night. It was a good day.
