i grow all my carrots in barrels, when thinning is needed, i rub raw onion around the edge of the barrel, carrot fly DO NOT like onions, i have never had trouble with carrot fly this way....

@HCF2HCB Hi HCF2HCB We have had a response from Steve for you: Not a silly question at all. Of course you can sow at the spacing on the tape yourself, but the tape is simply designed to make a fiddly job a little quicker and easier and it certainly does that. I have found however that more regular watering is required than with standard seeds to ensure that the seeds do not dry out and that the paper degrades quickly. Captain Carrot

Excuse my ignorance, but why not just sow to the spacing on the tape instead of actually using the tape? Thus still eliminating the need to thin. Newbie grower here.
