Kidney Beans! Grow Your Own Re-Fried Beans
Tips, Tricks
Kidney beans grow surprisingly well in a polytunnel, even here in soggy Ireland. And they’re worth it too – for the wonderful colour and so much flavour. Of course you can just soak them and boil them like any dried pulse, but this is the way Sandra prepares refried beans – and although it seems a lot of work and time, the taste really is excellent. I grew dark red bean seed several days ago in a seed starting container. I damp the soil and I sprayed water to the bean directly. Then I put them in the dark room. I just found out that all of them are infected by fungi/some kind of white mold and won't germinate. Is it because I damp the soil, spray water directly to the beans, put them in the dark room, or the combination of those three?

Great! How many plants get you the right amount of harvest to last a year?

Thanks for the nice video and recipe :)
If you are interested, you should check out a Indian recipe called Rajma (Red Kidney Beans) Masala. It is one of my favourites.
Also do try soaking the beans over night and throwing in some cilantro at the end. -
I grow mine for 2 weeks
then the lawn mower people killed it :( -
wow so that's where my favorite beans come from.

Great video. I made them yesterday just as you showed us. Amazing. It's such a great thing to eat your own grown food. :)
I love your lifestyle. -
I dont like kidney beans :(
But i loooove munching on green beans while working on my assignments :D -
That's awesome! :) Hand picked. I go from one video showing a giant combine plowing up the years harvest in a 100 acre field to the hand picked in garden video, I prefer the idea of hand picked. Thanks for sharing.

We soak our beans in water overnight and rinse the next morning before cooking to get rid of the phytic acid so they are less...musical...if you know what I mean! Delicious recipe. Thank you!

This video was fantastic, your recipe look delicious! Is it difficult to grow kidney beans in irish weather? I'm trying to get a proper garden growing myself and i could do with some sort of legume or bean. I hear chickpeas aren't very successful but you look as if youve done really well with kidneys! Any advice?

Here in the southern USA we take things just a bit further by adding slices of link sausage with the pan fry veggies and serving it all over rice or potato cakes,,, at least us older folk do.
