Keyhole Garden - How to build a Keyhole Garden / Raised Bed Vegetable Patch
Tips, Tricks
Visit for more info: http://www.epicdiy.com/?page_id=2 Video of how I built my cheap, almost free, keyhole garden (raised bed). The idea of a keyhole garden is that you feed kitchen and garden waste into the central area, this turns to compost. During decomposition it gets warm, which can help keep your crops warmer during cold days and nights. When you water the compost area, the minerals are dispersed into the surrounding soil which feeds your plants, In theory this increased your foods nutritional value and improves the taste. Making your own compost can help reduce wastage and help save on landfill. My Keyhole garden was very cheap to build. The bricks were salvaged free from a local rubbish dump that also handles rubble. Most of the compost I already had from my own compost bins. The surrounding stones were also salvaged from the local tip. Well done. Handy tip to save your back. Use a shovel to shift soil, not a spade and use a long handle. Your back will thank you later in life ..... trust me.
cheers and keep gardening. -
this is great! I don't want to make my raised bed out of wood cuz it will just go bad a year or two, but also not cement blocks.. they are just not pretty, haha. Love this!! Thank you for making this video :)

You didnt use mortar, is the brick layout good enough to hold the soil without anything securing or glued to them?
-
Very creative! Thanks for the video.

Great technique! I'm going to look around the place and see what I can find to make one too. It gets hot and dry in Western Montana. Thank-you for sharing!

che lavoro inutile e quanto spreco di materiali

The angle you place the bricks makes it look so nice, I love it.I have seen many versions of this African raised bed, I will make one one day. Thank you for the video!

This makes me really mad as a gardener. Labeling BioSolid / Sewer Sludge as "compost". Spread the news. Make this stop,
if you believe it is unacceptable for companies to hide their real ingredients because it might not sell, and people don't want it. Imagine growing your own vegetables, thinking it is healthy, only to get a dose of "unknown" substances into your body.
I am so mad!
