Kale & Kale (Pests/Recipes): Grow It, Cook It, Eat It - A Garden & Cooking Series E- 2
Tips, Tricks
Coley and I are excited to present our 2nd episode of Grow It, Cook It, Eat It. You can find the recipe and other garden links below. This episode is all about Kale and it is a little heavier on the Grow It side. Kale is easy to grow and a great crop, if you can manage 3 annoying pests. I spend time showing you how to do just that. Coley has 5 tips for you to tame that delicious yet sometimes dirty leaf. She shows you how to prepare it, dry it, crisp it, blend it and even massage it. And don't forget to eat what you grow and cook, with your family and friends. Cheers! I love kale in potato salad. I also use it in my garlic puree and my sofrito. My daughter says that she doesn't like kale and this is the way I get her and her family to eat kale. She doesn't notice because in the garlic puree there's cilantro and parsley and she thinks that the green color is that. In the sofrito it has peppers coriander and other things so she doesn't notice. lol I'm tricky. Thank for the advice and how to make kale chips your way is much easier. Will try it. Gary is this the channel you always had? If it is YouTube unsub me so I subbed you again.. Great video.

Thank you for this great video on how to use kale. Hubby and I are not fond of the kale taste so make a morning smoothy that is fabulous and hides the kale taste but gives us the benefits. my nutribullet recipe: red seedless grapes or frozen blueberries (whatever the store has to buy, a splash of organic black cherry juice, homegrown malabar spinach, homegrown alfalfa sprouts, organic kale leaves, filtered water as needed, stevia drops to taste, homegrown egyptian spinach leaves, organic plain yogurt, whole flax seeds in the large nutribullet cup - one for each of us. Really nutritious and even my meat and potatoes loving hubby loves it. I now have organic kale seeds on the way to me and look forward to trying to grow them in zone 13B. Thanks again, Coley

Thanks Gary and Coley, loved the video some great tips, I lost all but one of my black Nero kale, earwigs, slugs then the caterpillars. But I will be well armed next year. I didn't about cutting the tops of to promote new grow, I might just get a few leafs yet!

Really enjoyed this video! Gary where did you get the spray bottle? Coley, you cracked me up when you went outside to dry off the washed kale. My mother used to do that. I'll try that salad today. Thanks for great video series.

Do you have any thoughts on Harlequin beetles (punaises de chou in French) that I've had thousands of? Fortunately I have the time to push them off into soapy water.....they seemed to start in the cauliflower that went to seed while I was hospitalised during April (S France zone 9b USA?) then decimated my one Kale plant......apparantly, they love anything in the cabbage family?

Awesome. I'm glad to find this. Thank you guys.

Beautiful!

Good tip on prepping kale, I don't grow it but with Gary's info I might. Ive only had it in soup. * But same comment as last time why eat it? What are the nutrients. Won't my swiss chard and beet greens give me my leafy green nutrients ?

Gary, thanks for the gardening tips and pest control for kale. Keep the camera rolling and great gardening.
-
The stems are actually crunchy, good for digestion, and delicious.. eat them!
-
hey gary will the olive oil work for the cabbage loopers too or is that just for getting rid of the white flies?
-
Always great information.
Do you remember where you purchased your crooked neck spray bottle?
Can't find it anywhere.
Thanks, -

thank you for the tips with neem oil and the hose. last year I threw out all my kale because of all the worms eating the leaves and the larva floating in the water when washed! Love kale but now growing swiss chard. LOL
