You should tell your friend that when taking over a plot all she needs is the willingness to work on her plot and to keep any expensive items alone until she feels she needs them.

I always tell newbies to think of a new plot in single square metres and not look at the whole plot. With this I tell them to clear each square metre and then plant something and as they go along they have something to look forward to.

Thanks for your videos. Not sure I agree fully with the advice for newbies. It's probably worth mentioning that not all allotment sites offer big plots. My site is a council owned site and the plots are much smaller. I think the budgeting and time allowances you mentioned don't apply to all plots. My first year on my site I just bought what I needed, when I needed it and didn't break the bank. Now in my second year I still have a lot of the things I got in my first year so I treated myself to a shed (used from ebay). All going well I may treat myself to a tunnel/greenhouse next year, although growing without these so far have caused me to be creative and experiment with what I can grow outside and when. I work and so mainly only go to the plot on the weekends but I make some time in a couple of evenings to pop down as well.
Having said all that, I do think this is a good video and it is all worth keeping in mind, there are a lot of people out there who don't appreciate the time, money and effort that can go in to these plots. Just wanted to share my experience as a newbie :)
Keep up the great videos. -

Its so depressing that the first thing anyone does when they get an allotment is use weed killer and poison the soil with glyphosate. Its becoming banned in many countries. I think brazil was the most recent banning it last week
