What can I use if I don't have (and can't afford) any bonsai pots. Can I use hypertufa pots that I made?

Hi I was wondering why you didn't remove that ugly knuckle root when pruning you have a fantastic nebri just below it, they are spreading nicely and would look fantastic exposed possibly a wider pot and use a drip tray with water in it to increase humidity. The pot you have used has a shiny interior generally that's not recommended as a glazed inside causes the roots to be unable to get purchase.I have found that using pine bark finds is a great way of retaining moisture levels in the soil and not suffering from soil compaction. Great video keep up the good work how's this tree looking now?

Hi Charles,
-
I swear these die on the way home from the nursery on me. How do you figure out what went wrong when you think you've done everything right and they just keep keeling over? I finally kept one alive for two years in the ground until this spring. It leafed out then dropped deader than Elvis for no obvious reason. It gets expensive to keep trying and figuring out the problem seems impossible when it could have been a dozen different reasons.

Why didn't you work the medium into the roots?

How about an update on this limbless, leafless, fella...is he still alive?...just discovering Bonsai thru you and others...subscribed to you.-thanks, and keep up the good work, -Chas

Hi Chas, I just bought a 7' maple tree. It is in a 10 gallon tub and the owner bought it at a nursery two years ago. It has some browing of the leaves which is a little early for S.California, but it came from inland where it's been very hot. It has low branches, so I'd like to bring it back to vigorous health and turn it into a bonsai. It needs to be repotted or put in the ground. The trunk is about 1.5 inches thick. What do you suggest doing to get it into optimal health? Thank you (:

with the soil is it go for eny bonsai? and who dose it do in winter? Thx
