Jane's Allotment September 4th 2016
Tips, Tricks
As well as planting out some Winter cabbage and tasting something quite, erm, different we meet the man behind the giant butternut squash plant! Many thanks to subscribers old and new, and the support of Brian and Tony over at UK Here We Grow. http://www.ukherewegrow.com/

Jane, what's the update on that monster squash? 😄
-
Your laughing :)

Thanks for sharing Subbed to your channel keep up the good work

I feel your cucamelon pain Jane! I didn't realise they're not self-polinating, and the ones I grew in the porch went mental, had loads of potential fruit...which just shrivelled and dropped off. The ones I planted outside (in a sheltered spot) did much better, but haven't produced nearly as many fruits. In any case, they just tasted like a slightly acidic cucumber to me, but I've seen people raving about them online. Am I missing something??

Wonderful video Jane and well done to you for the continued growth of your channel. All the best.

Jane, does Alan know what variety that squash is? I want one of those next year :)

Thoroughly enjoyed this video Jane, so much going on and take care till next time 👍.
😆 Happy growing,

When I have a load of chillies to use up, I put them in the blender, mince them up and put them in ice cube trays with a drop of water and put them in the freezer. Easy to pop out when making a chilli or a curry. I have minced them up with a little oil and white wine vinegar and put them in a jar but didnt like them as much as the frozen ones.
I have (so far) managed to avoid blight on my toms but I did get it on my potatoes growing in pots - I went away for a weekend and when I got back, all the foliage was black and curled up. Wounded! -
Sorry about the blight on the tomatoes - hope you rescued some. You're only supposed to eat the leaf of Nasturtium mixed in a salad. It's very tangy.

Hello Jane, long time no speak 😟. Pity about the Toms, I had similar with mine but it was Botrytis. Alan is an amusing guy, keep us informed if it reaches the M6!!!!
All the best.....Nigel -
Shame about the toms, I think the blight has just hit our site so checking mine daily. Did you add plenty of lime to the soil to prevent the clubroot? I think I may avoid Nasturtium seeds after your taste test :)

Dear Jane please please please do something with your mic can barely hear you. I know I'm not going deaf yet! Love the video and especially your chat. I was in stitches when you ate the nasturtium flower and the seed to see your face turn red classic😂😂😂 Thank you for sharing. Best wishes.👍

Jane, you always make me giggle, when I'm watching your videos my daughter always asks me if I'm watching the silly allotment lady! Gosh that squash, it's like a scary movie scene :) xxx

Someone best check on Allen daily, that squash is a bit reminiscent of Day of the Triffids. 😱
