That is all very interesting, but what good is finding "a glimmer of absolute truth", unless a human mind is there to appreciate it, and what would any of that concern matter, at all, unless mankind is there to receive it?
-
There are no arguments. Just misconceptions based on an elusive set of nebulous perceptions. I am trying to find a glimmer of absolute truth that may-well be denied because of nature's eternal indifference to our pain and suffering. If I could collect damages from nature for the death of Annais Rittenberg, who died under a collapsed oak, I would want it in Sears credit card points and textured-protein that tastes like swordfish steak. My dad bought a little tree at a Sears garden center, once.

My last comment. I responded to you in peace and fun. Not in any way argumentative. I am just giving my 3 cents of what I know. Take it or leave it that is up to you. If we are still alive in 16 years we will merge with machines if we want to its called Singularity. I am not concerned with other realms, I leave them for later. I am dealing with life as it is now and that includes breathing oxygen which is produced by precious plants and trees. We need to be good to all beings. They are innocent.

There are many words and terms in the English language that are used in an attempt to explain things and circumstances that cannot be defined or understood. For instance the word "mystery" is used to explain something that cannot be literally explained or understood. Another frequently used word, "eternal" cannot be understood in terms of a personal sense, because you cannot be aware when you're born or when you die. Your word "soul" falls into the same category.
-
I have no religion. You only say that you don't need to exist as an indestructible algorithm because you are momentarily satisfied with your life. Eventually, you will become miserable, and then you'll want something different. The trees are poisoning your thoughts, because you think they're beautiful, but they aren't. Jesus was crucified on wood from trees. Animals aren't vegan, even though they are alleged to be "natural." You don't know what a "soul" is. I am really mad at you.
-
Are you a Christian? I don't need to live in a world of indestructible algorithms in order to protect the trees and other life on Earth. I don't need to alter physical objects. Furniture as I said before can be made out of sustainable materials. I don't have a soul and neither do you. And neither does baby Jesus. Peace out, total bliss, total ice cream bliss, but vegan ice cream.

It isn't clear to me that trees completely lack cognizance. We may associate the presence of the brain and nervous system with the ability to "think," but there seems to be a derivative association among these organs and the organs simpler creatures. I don't think there is a single point in evolutionary procession where organisms (such as people) suddenly began to have self-awareness. If trees could talk, perhaps they'd say: "Consuming maple syrup is barbaric." I wish I had room to say more.
-
The first answer to your comment, way back, things without brains like trees that you mentioned have no recognition or delight with pain or pleasure, with beauty or ugliness, nor lastly with good and evil. The meaning of your phrase, "improving existence" is meaningless to a tree, but if the tree had a brain, it might mean "improving existence" for the tree could mean a need for the extermination of mankind, since man's demands for the continuous removal and use of tree products to satisfy man.
-
I don't concur that beauty and pleasure can't exist without the contrast of ugliness and pain. There is absolutely no logical precedence for that assumption. It is an assumption born out of traditional human belief systems that stem from the same irrational sentiment, for example, that "Christ suffered for your sins." This is utter poppycock. There is something fundamentally wrong with our existence, and that knowledge is, perhaps, the only inroad we have to the prospect of improving existence.
-
If one only sponges up eternal beauty and pleasure, then that person may be little more than a brainless stone lying without the knowledge of pain, depression, evil or ugliness. Experiencing beauty and unlimited good can only be fully realized when it is counterbalanced by the ugly and the bad. Experiencing the mental rush of that rare epiphany can only be briefly felt by the limiting and digital fleshy lobes of the human brain, just like the descent into a nadir must soon return to reality
-
We must find a way to transcend the world of physical substance, and exist only as indestructible algorithms that take up no time or space. Then, there would be no need to alter physical objects such as trees, or manufacture furniture, or contend with toxins. Imagine an existence of timeless, space-less beauty that would forever bask our immortal souls in endless beauty and love and peace. Perhaps there is a parallel universe with these qualities that we are unaware of. Baby Jesus is crying.

A tree can only kill you if a logger has cut it and then it falls on you. So blame the logger. No need to shop at Ikea, you can buy furniture relatively cheap online, there is a large line of furniture that has been made with sustainable materials and without toxins on them. :0)
-
There is also the counter-argument that harmful bacteria, protozoa and fungi that have no brains but they can kill humans, but it is a common practice to use fungicides and other controlling measures to kill them. It is true that trees kill people, once you take out your inexperienced, trusty chainsaw and start sawing it on the wrong side. It can fall on you and kill you even if it is a beautiful flowering, Japanese magnolia tree in full bloom, when you decide to take it down. It's better to leave your trusty chainsaw in the garage.Take a seat under the flowering limb masses and enjoy the beautiful blooms and the aromatic fragrance and keep you thoughts focused on the positive ecstatic epiphany of flowers.
