Iowa winter greenhouse growing indoors: Daylily stages seed to finished plant
Tips, Tricks
First let me say that this LONG COLD winter of 2014 has been brutal for so many! using my living room as a greenhouse has kept my sanity in check. Having said that Im running out of room! You will see a little disorganization in this video because its time to once again move plants, move equipment etc to make it all neatly organized again. Having said that lets go on to the fun stuff! Today I am talking about the many stages of growing from seed, specifically daylily seeds.which are by far my favorite perennial. I did allot of trial and error this winter and finally found the perfect combination for seed germination and higher germination rates! Check it out.

where did you get those little containers with lids?

Your rocks and water...did your cover have holes?

I have a bunch of dayllilies seeds to start. I've had them in the fridge for a few months. so they should be ready to go. I'm in zone 5. How long can I grow them inside (I'm using 4' 4-bulb florescent fixtures) before they get about a foot tall or outgrow the 3" pots? I've never grown them before. I just started my peppers a week and a half ago though...they take forever. Should I start the daylilies now?

Hello, I'm doing the same thing but I did the wet paper towel in zip lock bag method. I have about 20 seeds which have germinated now sitting in small pots like yours. How long will it take before I will see flowers say from the 3inch stage? Can it happen in one season?

Good morning! I am trying this method, but it seems like all the seeds are beginning to show some mold. I have soaked them in a weak bleach solution, then about 3 days in a 1 part peroxide/10 part water solution before placing them on the rocks. Any suggestions?
