You are going to use a colored mulch around plants you're going to eat? You do realize the wood used for colored mulch usually comes from recycled wood (like pressure treated wood)? And that wasn't compost it was potting soil; compost doesn't have perlite in it (the little white flecks).

I just pull my weeds, stuff them in a bucket of water and put a lid on it. week later instant liquid fertilizer for my plants.

I wouldn't personally use pulled weeds as mulch for the simple fact that, many of them have seeds which could create major problems in your bed. Second, red dye mulch has chemicals in it. Best to use hay or pine needles that have sat outside & got some rain- after getting rain, needles wont leach into the soil & cause ph problems. Hay is best, not straw it has seeds in it & will start to grow - wheat or barley in your garden.
