This was a wonderful video! Thank you so much, I appreciate all the information. Especially when you were listing wish were best to store in and out of the fridge. When it comes to squash would it be best to keep it out or store it in the fridge?

Great tips! I especially love the tip on how to keep summer squash & cucumbers fresher longer. I never knew how to treat them when I brought them home from the store. They always went south rather quickly regardless if they were in a bag, or not in a bag. Thanks Hilah! :)

glad to see u here hilah, always did follow u . i find if i can grow it in south fl practice succession planting and ,i try to keep some on the tree/plant (alap) as long as possible, so i dont have to refrigerate them

Great onion tip for the fridge! For some reason you've inspired me to make twice baked potatoes tonight?!? Anyway, thanks Hilah!

I've kept onions in the fridge for years now, and it's my preferred way to store them. I normally don't store much else in the drawer with them, and the last for months. I learned the water "vase" and loose bag trick a couple years ago for cilantro and it's been a life-changing trick.

I love your kitchen. Thanks for the tips.

My wifes lettuce tastes and smells much better after a quick wash and gentle breeze, goes great with pork and a drizzle of mayo.

Very good advice.

The trick to not crying when cuttign onions is not to form an emotional bond. For example it helps if you don't give your onions names.

Great tips! :-)
I've found that storing onions and potatoes together also tends to get the potatoes sprouting eyes and turning green earlier than if I'd kept them separate as well as turning the onions into overripe mush. I'll have to try the cold onion trick too, I'm always dripping with tears when I cut them. -
I agree with just about everything here. Great video, Hilah!
I also store my onions in the fridge. We buy them in bulk, wrap them individually in newspaper (mostly just separates them, I think), and store the in the crisper of our "extra" fridge. They last pretty well in a dark cabinet, but with our humidity here, the fridge seems to give a few more weeks and more consistent results.
I've personally found a paper bag doesn't work that well with button or cremini mushrooms. The package they come in seems to give me a pretty good window, whereas a bag seems to make them shrivel. It makes sense -- why would producers pack them in a way that decreases shelf life (pre-sliced aside)? -
I keep my produce fresh by tearing a hole in space-time and placing them there. That way they stay unaffected by time and thus never age.

Hilah! This is terrific information!!! Thank you for sharing. I need to change some of my habits with my fresh food.... lol

I was waiting for the "plastic on the top" trick to fridge bananas. I usually put two or more paper towels inside the fruit cabinet to bring humidity down a bit

I am not sorry that I was expecting a Micro-Jig plug when you talked about reaching for a peach.
"You reach for a fresh peach, only to find .. "Micro-JIG!" -
Hilah your a babe 😆

excellent tips Hilah! only thing i can think of to add is keep citrus separate from other fruit. the paper towel on greens will save people tons of money.
