How to Seed Start & Cup Transplant Mint, Peppermint & Spearmint: Any Mint! - The Rusted Garden 2014
Tips, Tricks
You don't have to spent a lot of money on the mint family buying transplants. I show you how to easily seed start and transplant it into cups to have it ready for your spring garden. It is a bit slow to germinate and it starts out really tiny but it quickly gets up to size in 6-8 weeks of growth. New to Gardening? Hi Gary! Thanks for all your wonderful videos! I wanted to know if I can just sow the seeds in into the cups...it's seems like double work and I'm gonna be starting a lot of seeds. What's the reason for not doing this... I saw on your other video that for the zucchini and squash you did because they grow faster...Thank you :)

I don't use pellets when I start any of my plants, but I'm afraid I don't know how to transplant the sprouts once they outgrow their container, I don't want to accidentally kill them by snapping their stems, how do I transplant containerized plants into larger containers?
-
Wonderful, I have two different kinds of mints started, just getting ready to transplant them to larger pots.

Hey +Gary Pilarchik, if I plant mints in containers to scatter around in my vegetable garden, will the mints have the same bug repelling affects - or do they need to be in contact with the same soil as the veg? My understanding is the scent is what matters, but wanted to be sure in case something is happening underground that I am not considering.

good video----great tips

That is a very important tip! Make sure to grow it in a container. I no longer grow my mints (Mojito, pineapple, and apple mints) in my ground garden. I did grow one 2 years ago and planted it in a container and then put it into the ground, but the container did not keep it contained! haha :)))It escaped and invaded the rest of the bed!! haha It was not too hard to keep under control (thank goodness). It is VERY invasive so be careful if you have not ever grown it. The roots will creep out through the drain holes.

I love mint! It makes great tea and adds great fragrance to the garden. I tried growing different varieties of mint, and at the end, i think I like the basic peppermint the best!
-
GREAT POINT GARY, mint - ALL MINTS will quickly take over your garden area..so you should container garden them- so you can control them. They are an awesome/great plant, but very aggressive!

..thank you Gary
..must get to work ! -
Thanks Gary :)
