Leyland Cypress trees are planted all over the place to block the view of surrounding properties. Here in Knoxville they tend to either get bagworms, mites, cankers, or suffer from compacted soil. I vertical mulch these Leylands to bring them back to glory. Vertical mulching is like aerating and topdressing turf - but on a larger scale for a tree. I back filled the holes I drilled with a mix of biochar, natures helper organic soil conditioner/compost, and Turface. Vertical mulching doesn't cost a ton to do monetarily, but its extremely physically demanding. Understand it as such when bidding jobs. You will get hurt. That being said, vertical mulching can make a tree return to full vigor. It will absolutely make you look like a hero.
