Here, The Horticult demonstrates how to extract a particularly stubborn dead bird. Warning: make sure your plant is well established before wrestling with it. For less established Strelitzia reginae, just clip stalks at the base.

what makes the leaves split?
I usually just cut it short and yank it out when it grows toward the outside with the older leaves.
I would rather see her tug on it than him!
