I also let a plant bolt and trim the old brown fully flowered stems off and cover them under a 1/4" of compost and water. In about a month they start to sprout and make ready because they will be tons of them to replant . ...... ..... ... Aloha

Hi! I tried it but my basil stems although green and leaves still fresh, have developed black marks at the end. Is that normal? will it still survive? Its been around 2/3 weeks now but no sign of roots

Thank you for the great video. I have tried propagating basil after watching your video. Every time, the terminal buds start to die and then the whole stem just withers and dies. Any ideas? I tried to upload pics but can't find the link on here. Don't seem to have much luck with herbs!

I put the roots into a big bucket of soil.? because I find that the Basil plants grew real fast in a small pot & has to be replanted into a bigger pot etc.

I use a propagation chamber with clone tech

I did propagate some Greek basil, it didn't grow roots, till I added some cinnamon powder with the water. in about 3 days the roots started growing.

I have used a styrofoam egg carton to propagate small cuttings of basi, and other plants. I have a fish tank that stays outside and collects rainwater for watering plants. I take the egg carton, and poke holes into each well, trim the large bottom leaves off of the basis stem and poke the stem through the hole. I float the entire thing in my rainwater container. the section of stem that is underwater starts to root and the floating wells keep the leaves dry and upright to gather sunlight. if I remove the cutting before the roots get too thick I can use the float again, but sometimes it grows so quickly that i have to tear away the styrofoam to free them. At least I got one or two more uses out of it before it goes to the trash. I end up with a dozen new plants and I don't worry about changing the water because there is so much and the rain refills it for me. This summer, I took My Aerogarden device and used that to propagate my basil from outdoors. I just stick the stems into the peat plug and the pump drizzles water over it constantly, Now I have to cut back the Genovese cause it is towering over my globe and lemon basil cuttings already!

Can I use reverse osmosis water?

How many lbs of basil leaves would you say 1 plant produce per week or month? Average.

I noticed the stem of my basil become brown and dry before reaching the leaves, looks like about to die, can i save it? if i take out of the soil will there be life in it?
-
I haven't had much luck with basil. My leaves wilted in a few days even though it was in water. Then they died. How do you prevent this? Do they need certain lighting conditions to work out?
-
can you do rosemary that way.

Kewl!
And " ... are we still rolling?" was too funny! She kind of shifted gear there for a few seconds, didn't she? :D -
Hi Cali, I liked how clear the sound is in your video. May I ask what camera and audio equipment you use to record your videos?

Bonjour CaliKim,
I have a question. I was wondering, since you place cuttings of more mature basil plant in the soil, does that mean that it will have a shorter lifespan in the long run and grow a lot slower? I mean the stems are already much thicker than if you were to grow from seed.....
Merci beaucoup and hope to hear back! -
Good to know, doing it now with "lettuce leaf basil". Thank you.

Hello I love your video. I have so much basil unfortunately my grandpa let the flowers grow on them. I heard it tastes different. Now my question is. Can I remove the flower and still do this so I can rescue new fresh good tasting basil? Thanks!

Great info, but difficult to listen to. "Basil" rhymes with "Hazel"!

Thanks for this video, yes I tired it one time but left it on the table and it died. Tired it again and put it by my window in my bedroom and they all had roots. Today I just plant one in a pot. Love your videos.
