How to Prepare Your Raised Bed Garden for the Winter Season
Tips, Tricks
John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ goes on a field trip to the Wasatch community garden in downtown salt lake city and share the crops that grew best in the summer and explains how to best prepare your raised bed garden for the winter. In this episode, John re-visits a community garden that he visited in 2010. He will first give you a tour of some of the vegetables, herbs and fruits that did the best in Salt Lake City, and should do well in many climates as these are some of the hardiest crops you can grow. Along the way, John shares with you some of his insights and information about growing food, preserving food and preparing food. John will also share many of his gardening tips with you. Next, at 20:36 John will share with you how he would prepare his raised beds for the winter season if he lived in Salt Lake City, Utah or another climate where people normally don't grow a vegetable garden in the winter time. You will also learn how he prepares his bed for the next planting season because he grows year round. Thanks for explaining why we should cover our raised bed gardens. I was worried about bugs surviving our cold winters here in PA. Protecting the living matter in the soil makes sense. It is only 20 degrees outside, but I guess it will still help to cover with my leftover straw.

John please tell me next time you come to SLC! I'd like to meet you. I've got a couple acres with water and would like to get any potential ideas or thoughts.

I was planning on buying seeds for spring and as early this year as possible in Henderson, NV but John didn't post the address as promised. I am starting a unique experimental container garden and need advice on what to plant here for year round growing.

I live just north of slc and it was real nice seeing slc on your video! If you ever swing this way again, you might want to check out the Grateful Grape community garden. It's one of the oldest community gardens at 100yrs plus. Real nice bit of history. I've taken a few classes there also.
