MDHTV joins Eric Clark with Civano Nursery to learn about potting today with this tropical milkweed thats gonna attract a lot of monarchs. The first thing you wanna know about pots is that you've gotta have a hole in the bottom. If you don't have a hole in the bottom, it's not going to drain. You don't need to put gravel in there, if you're using a good potting soil which is mostly Pete Moss, which is going to help drain through that hole. Usually, you don't want to put a saucer under there because it's going to hold water in, its gonna breed mosquitoes. You could use the saucer once in awhile, but make sure you empty after its full of water. The main thing you wanna do is look for plant that's well rooted. Then all you have to do is fill up the pot with your potting soil, and give yourself a little space. A lot of people make the mistake, coming from some other climate, of scoring the roots. When it's warm and Tucson and you have a nice root ball, don't score the roots, just plant them directly into the soil undisturbed.
