I watch a dozen different professional growers and they ALL say that the only thing sugar does is feed the microbes that feed the plant. The plant only uses what it needs. It doesn't need sugar, thus it will NOT use it in any way.

why not take the leaves off before you plant it deep for they won't rot in the soil

you should have removed the leaves and branches from the part of the stem that you buried.

If anyone is wondering why she used sugar. .. It has something to do with the "good" bacteria that's in the soil. . I use molasses it's the same difference. . 1 or 2 table spoons of molasses to 1 gal of water.. also there is absolutely nothing wrong with the amount of Epsom salts she used.. seen a few comments here where people saying she used to much... Do what works for you ...So Experiment.. what works for one gardener might not work for others..

the wood chips in the soil will actually rob nitrogen from the soil as it's needed to break down. Her planting technique is aweful, but I do admire her melons.

I'd love to pour my organic fertilizer into your hole.

I spray sugar on my strawberry plants and it makes them sweeter, if you spray Scotch on your lawn it will come up half cut.

Thank you for the video, but Im curious why you use sugar in the soil as it will do nothing for the nutrition of the plant, and also why you didn't remove the leaves from the bottom part of the stem before deep-planting it. Wouldn't having leaves fully buried in the soil expose the plant to infections and rot, whereas simply having a stem and roots below ground will keep the plant hardier since the stem is much sturdier and thicker and doesn't have stomata and other porous elements which might lead to infection.
