How To Plant Tomato & Pepper Seeds Indoors - Arizona Desert Organic Vegetable Garden
Tips, Tricks
How To Plant Tomato & Pepper Seeds Indoors In this video, I will show you how to start your tomato and pepper seeds indoors for December harvest for those of us located in grow zone 9. I'm starting the seeds indoors on July 20th. I will transplant the tomato seedlings in about a month into bigger cups and the pepper seedlings will stay in their current cups until is time to plant them in the garden. As always, I am using Jiffy Organic Seed starting Mix. I only plant one seed per cup because with this starting mix I have close to a 100% germinating rate. I moistened the seed starting mix with water from the sink, which I allowed to sit for a few hours in order for the chlorine to evaporate. I always bottom water my seeds by filling the tray with water and allowing the soil to absorb the needed amount of water. I will keep the seeds covered with clear plastic on the top of the refrigerator until they germinate. I will do at least one watering with fish fertilizer and one watering with Epsom salt. When the tomato and pepper seeds germinate, I will move them by the window so they can get enough sunlight. 1. Hi! I'm curious of the watering system you have going. As far as the cups, are the holes you put in the cups directly on the bottom or do you go up sides..or both?
Great video by the way. I'm too north greenbelt for a second grow season however, with the heat maybe I can pull it off. no figuring why my maters just don't want to grow the kat 3 seasons..beyond me! never giving up ~
thank you for the time & helping info! -
That is the same seed starting mix I use. It works really well, but it does dry out pretty fast.

Would you be able to germinate them outside? Thanks for these great videos!

Not many places in the US where you can start tomato plants in July and expect to have tomatoes before its too cold unless you have a greenhouse. Arizona has a tremendously long growing season!

I don't see the link for the chart...

Hi! Thanks for all your very informative videos! I am dying to start my seedlings but the temperature outside is still way too hot (I'm in Dubai). However, I have a window that only gets about 3 hours of sunlight in the morning from about 7am-10am and I'm not currently in a position to buy/install grow lights. Is that enough or will they still be light deprived? Otherwise, what would you recommend for the maximum temperature outside to start growing seedlings?
Also haven't yet found seed starting mix here, I do have organic potting mix. Would this still work? -
Awesome job as always, Ms Sasha. :) I'm just starting to get true leaves on my new seedlings. Hugs, Lisa
