What if you already have a lawn with dead spots from the soil being to Sandy or acidic should I tool that over with new soil added or just put new soil on top of the dead.

How do you seed 4 acres by hand!?!?!?!? Many errors in this advice...

I love your videos. Dang. I got the highest part of my yard is a mixture of quarts and clay. The drier it is the harder it is. I can get topsoil but, dang, I am not looking forward to tilling that. May have to buy a tiller. the rental may cost more.

I don't agree with the big box store seed. IMO all seed is not created equal. My advice is to contact a local chemical/fertilizer warehouse in your area and use what they sell. The place I goto supplies all the golf courses and professionals. I am sure every state has a place like this. The seed I buy for my lawn is tested at our state university and it is the correct seed for our climate and soil type. Not to mention it has a better germination rate. I have used the others and never had good results, when I made the switch years ago I had much better success. I also recommend a soil sample. Putting seed on poorly treated soil is like running an engine with no oil. However this all depends on what zone you are in. You are not going to use the same seed if you are in Texas as you would if you were in Wisconsin.

Great video, but I have a question about the second step. I'm overseeing on an existing lawn -- am I supposed to add dirt all over the lawn to help the new seed germinate??
-
I didn't even think about picking up the yard to shake it even.

So when aerating then overseeing this time of year, when you put seed down and bag lawns for fall will seed grow and will it come up and n fall or spring?

Very helpful, and the guy is soooo easy on the eyes.

Hi There, I have a wooded lawn like yours... some is full sun and some with large mature trees with high canopies offers more shade. Where I have more shade, my grass is VERY thin, like someone with thin hair that you can see straight to their scalp, I have that issue with my thin lawn. At the base, I have green mold growing on the dirt/soil. On the sunny part, I have no issues other than some spots. I'm about to work this yard for the fall. I was wondering if lime / gypsum would help on the think parts? I live in PA, cool weather grass and clay soil. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
