Masaka. The colored callas will rot quickly if you water them too much. they're from a different part of South Africa than the white.

I recommend mulching your pots for Calla Lilies. It helps provide the environment Calla Lilies enjoy, by holding moisture in the dirt and keeping the soil temperatures lower. The lighter the mulch color, the less heat absorbent it will be. Thus the lower your soil temperatures will remain. A great all purpose mulch are grass clippings. It provides all of the benefits of mulch plus serves to re-purpose perfectly good organic matter that would normally be thrown away. Plus, its FREE! Other alternative mulch options are paper shredder refuse and straw.

we planted our cala's the first week of march. how soon can we expect to see the first shoots? we put them in a pot about the size of the one in this video. havent seen anything yet. maybe its not consistantly warm enough yet here in washington state...?
