How to plant Asiatic Lilies: Jeff Turner plants short stemmed Lilies
Tips, Tricks
http://www.jparkers.co.uk/c-ga/lilies/asiatic-lilies/ Jeff shares advice and tips on planting short stemmed Lily bulbs into pots in this helpful how-to video. Lilies are one of the most popular bulbs around. Their flowers are large and fragrant with a vast range of vivid colours to choose from, often with interesting markings. Short Stemmed Lilies are the perfect choice for pots on the patio, as well as containers and even rockeries. They offer a great display planted in clumps and flower in summer from around June to September. Their shorter stems also make them far less vulnerable to wind damage. Never planted lilies before but I found some in my new home garden. They flowered beautifully and now that the flowers are gone, what can I do with the stems? Can I trim them down?

I planted some asiatic lilies yesterday in my garden and noticed today that the blooms are dying and the base of the stem and leaves are turning yellow. In only 24 hours. Are they dying?

I planted the bulbs like you said last week but I don't see anything yet, how long before the plants pop through the soil? 2 or 3 weeks?
Thanks,

you're using straight compost for planting? we usually mix half and half, compost and potting soil. is going with straight compost better for lilies?

Thank you but a warning to dog owners bulbs are highly poisonous to dogs.
When do you plant them? -
Hi there, its difficult to say without details. If your bulbs didn't develop at all, it may be that they were planted too deep. Yellow flowers/leaves can be a sign of over-watering. It may be that you are watering too frequently, the drainage is poor or it may be the compost you are using. We recommend you plant 15cm deep with a little sharp sand under and above the bulb, water sparingly until growth starts and use a good peat based compost. Your Lilies should grow well in these conditions.

I have been told over and over how easy it is to grow and maintain Lilies, but I have thus far failed two years in a row. Last year I bought 3 bags of bulbs and not a single one developed. This year I have bought plants that have already got stalks and about to bloom. My daughters Asiatic Lily or Lilium hybrid have turned from white/ pink blooms to brown and the leaves are turning yellow. Help Please?!
