How to plant a clematis
Tips, Tricks
This simple tutorial will show you how to plant a clematis. A good time to plant a clematis is early autumn when the soil is still warm, giving your plant a good chance to develop a strong root system before the winter. If you intend to plant your clematis (or any other climber) at the base of the wall, place the plant approx. 40-50cm away from the wall and then angle it in. Dig a deep hole in the ground, then add a handful of compost and a good sprinkle of bonemeal. Plant the clematis deeper than you normally would, so that the soil level is a couple of inches above the rootball. Clematis prefer a cool root run so for best results use a clematis root protector (here is how to use one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z6IjwY3X10).

Thanks for posting this! Just one question? Is it better to loosen the roots before planting? I planted a clematis yesterday and literally annihilated the roots before planting. I didn't destroy them just separated them a lot before planting. Is this method OK? Thx
