An easy home recycling project that will help with your garden and give a use to those old newspapers lying around. Video set to the music of Celtic group Kirkmount. What you need: -a pile of old newspapers -trays for holding finished pots -potting soil -seeds or seedlings -water Start by making sure your trays are clean. I find great cast-off trays in the friendly dumpster of my local home and garden shop. Next, take a half sheet of newspaper and roll it into a tube the diameter you want for your finished pot. I like a diameter a little bigger than my fist. Now, carefully fold down the top edge of the paper tube about an inch. Continue to fold this edge a couple of times to make a sturdy rim for the pot and to shorten the lenght of the tube. Next, put your fist in the tube to the depth you want your pot. Fold the bottom of the tube over to form a base that meets your fist. Now, place the finished pot in the tray. When you have enough pots for your needs, simply fill with potting soil and carefully plant your seeds or seedlings. Water well (do this outside or over a sink as the pots will drip). Please remember that these are temporary pots meant for transplants that will go into the garden in a month or two. They will break down, which is actually a desirable benefit as you don't really have to remove the pot when you put your transplants out in the garden (though, just to be safe, you should unfold the bottom of the pot and make a tear down the side) . Have fun with this project. It's a great garden prep activity for those winter months when you can't be outside doing.
