Instead of killing my lawn i just popped some 12" holes and doubled over some edging to make a nice planting hole. I leave it a bit raised for easy trimming of the grass. I loosen and feed the dirt beneath the removed sod and plant my seedlings. So far my plants are doing wonderful. Kind of has a nice ornamental look and my neighbors are giving my the thumbs up... I wanted to go bigger this year but tearing up the grass on the side of my coroner lot facing the street just seemed a bit too much. The"holes" give it a manicured look and i also recycled the coroners of a gazebo tent to plant Beans, hanging cukes, Carrots. Als potted basil and spinach are growing on the shelf's. I planted Morning glory to grow up the posts but man that stuff is fast and CRAZY.. lol I am falling in love with gardening and i don't even know what I am doing... I guess nature doesn't really need much help... I sure would love to see local farming return to ALL states. We could just tell BIG agra and GMO's to get FUCKED.. Pardon me.. NOT! Sorry, I am sidelined by a stomach virus and smoked a lil grass to feel better.. Guess i'm feelin a lil goofy... Another thing... I can NOT wait to be able to grow MARIJUANA... Freakin insane that it is still illegal to do so in Pa. ANYWHERE for that matter... It is a god damn PLANT... So yeah, just enjoying being a new gardener.. Or back after a long respite. THANKS DAD...

Really works
personal I used this method on my neighbors but instead of all the stuff he said I used a fuckton of chemicals -
this Method would make it easy for me to put Mulch in my Flower Bank A.K.A. Flower Bed as most would call it.
how can I do this if I just applied Sand to equal out my Planting Garden. -
Yeah now good luck with the snakes that would live within haha

This is great advice. I just wish my dad believed this would work. We just bought a house, and it has a lawn we want to get rid of. Instead of the great ideas in this video, he wants to spray the lawn with insecticide, then cover everything in plastic, and then layer tons of nugget sized tanbark on top, just to kill the grass so he doesn't have to mow. We have a free wood chip service in our town, but I haven't yet been able convince my dad this would be a better, safer, and cheaper alternative for us. I really don't want to have to garden on a plastic, diseased yard with dyed tan bark all over the place.

I have used this method and it really works. I put my hay at the end of fall, and then you put more on early spring, and grass doesn't grow.
