Hey man. I was wondering your thoughts on "Blood" and "Bone" Meal. Keep up the good work. Cheers. Alex

This is one of your best vids, John! I've been really confused as to what system and cost, etc., and you answered all the questions.

I bury my 1/2 in poly in a trench using a trenching shovel. It looks better in the landscape

John, thanks for doing these videos. I am setting up a garden on several hillside acres in the Santa Monica Mountains and your videos are helping me choose the vegetables and fruit trees and plan. I want everything edible and want to grow as much of my own food as possible! I am looking at putting in significant raised bed space and would like to keep costs down but safety is more important. What do you think about using corrugated metal roofing for the sides of the raised beds? Do you think that is safe to geow vegetables in?
thanks, Chris -
so deep soil in this raised bed for this short roots plants ?
-
Can you bury the irrigation lines if the beds are not near the house? If so how deep would you recommend?
-
Why taking soooooo looong showing something ? Over an hour to show us a drip irrigation system ?!
-
if it costs there $30,I wonder why it's more expensive here :/

Thanks so much John for making part 1 & 2 of this raised bed install. I have the space, bought the wood, the soil, compost, ROCK DUST!!! Diatomaceous Earth, vermiculite, perlite and other goodies and I even bought some of your seeds but was so intimidated about installing an irrigation system but now I'm totally confident and can start placing and filling my beds. I really appreciate your videos! You got me going! and you're helping me to realize my childhood dream of having my own organic garden following in my grandmother's footsteps.

question: once you put your back flow preventer, why didnt you just run a reg garden hose over to your bed , THEN put on the pressure reg .and install your black drip line? it would eliminate the need for the elbow. and would give you more black tube for your drip line.(longer drip line)..also, couldnt you just take an old hose, and put a few nail holes in the hose, and use as a drip line? wouldn't that be cheaper? (put a hole in the hose, at the base of each plant.and then just buy a cheap water timer, of try to find one at a garage sale, flea market, etc...SAVE THAT MONEY !..lol

What is your name, you look familiar?
-
John, you forgot to mulch.
Mulch helps suppress weeds. Helps the soil retain moisture by keeping down evaporation and it feeds the soil as it breaks down. -
Could you please tell the name of that spinach again, I didn't understand and an interested in looking for it, thanks!

we could have had a great drinking game with this video, every time he mentions the word "budget", we drink!

I was feeling intimidated about installing a drip system, I have 1 giant raised bed I put in this year, it is 4 feet wide and about 15 feet long made of cinder blocks, and I have many 5 gallon and 10 gallon pots scattered everywhere. After watching you install this system it looks sooooo easy! I will be installing my irrigation system next month and feel confident I will have no trouble. Thank you for showing me how to do it, and thank you for the abundance of knowledge you bring to us in all your videos! God bless you John!

Nice, I didn't grow this year due to the water situation in socal. I usually enter my stuff in the OC Fair. The last two years took 2nd place overall in the 6 weeks they have it. A retired teacher has always beaten me. Now I have a weapon for next year, Drip Irrigation should make it a lot easier. Thanks for the video on how to do it correctly. You should enter your stuff, it's a lot of fun. Last year I achieved 215 points, point system is 5 for 1st place 3 for 2nd place and 1 point for 3rd place. Every Tuesday morning we would take our entries in. I was beaten out by 24 points last year. Next year with the drip irrigation should bring a 1st place overall. I use to watch Mel back in the 80's then you, I remember when the city was giving you a hard time for your garden in the front yard, oh well we do what we can. One of your videos was someone peeing on the soil, that made me laugh.... Nitrates are good.... later dude....
