How To: Growing Cabbage from Seed: 3 Varieties
Tips, Tricks
I discuss briefly 3 cabbage varieties in this video: Copenhagen Early Market, Early Jersey Wakefield, and Danish Ballhead. All three varieties are easy to grow. They are perfect for a small backyard garden, and thrive in raised beds.

I grew Copenhagen last year with great success - 4-8 lb heads. I also found that if I cut the heads off and left the basal leaves, the plant puts out secondary heads. These heads end up smaller, but it's a nice second harvest for no extra effort.

your just showing the big cabbages not really how to from seed?

I would like to produce seeds of cabbages

Thanks for this very useful video. Sometimes, we buy seeds of veggies that we have never grown before. I have grown cabbages before but unfortunately, they were eaten by some groundhogs before we had the chance to taste them. I never know when to start the seeds of cabbages (inside under neon lights), when to replant in bigger pots, figure out the spacing in the garden, etc. .I plan to put them in jail sort of speak, so that if any groundhog comes along, the cabbages will be safe!!!

Hi there, thanks for the video. Quick question: I have started some purple cabbage. They are about two weeks in, have germinated beautifully, but they have very long stems thin stems, with the two little leaves at the top. But they are so long that they aren't really able t hold themselves up. Do they need the dirt higher up? (Should I have sewn them deeper?) I'm debating attempting to put them into a deeper container and put more dirt around the stem. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Why are the leaves in your garden so pretty? How do you deal with worms and bugs? This is only my second year trying to grow cabbage, broccoli, and zucchini, will be trying cauliflower this year too. However, last year pest got them all. Thanks in advance. Sheila

Hi this may sound like a silly question but I am fairly new to gardening. Do you eat the outer layer of leaves or only harvest the head in the middle? Loving your channel by the way :)
