Kudos for the Video! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Proutklarton Organic Tips Plan (google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning how to grow fresh organic food using the secrets of aquaponics minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my work buddy after a lifetime of fighting got astronomical results with it.

im grown herbs in a planter, i started pole beans and eggplants in starter containers which I'm going transplant to a 4x8 "square foot" garden, with a cage over it to keep the squirrels from eating my fruit again this year.

my plan is to take a desk that i don't use for a desktop computer anymore attach a good sized board to the back and build some beds to attach to the backboard and have some pots and a tarp on top of the desk to grow some tomatoes kale other leafy greens and some carrots possibly

I'm glad to see you both promoting growing your own food. Great vid, girls.

Free bookshelves from people's traps makes great box garden! Soap and water for pest control. Vegan compost and coffee grounds.

Clay no soil in Texas! It's all limestone or clay! Everything dies on me!!

I grow micro greens. wheat grass, barley grass, buckwheat lettuce, Russian kale, black eye pea greens, sunflower sprouts, broc sprouts, pea shoots, arugula..... You can grow them inside all year round. I have a 6ft X 6ft shelf with standard shop lights on each shelf. they grow in black trays and I use my paper towel method which is cheap and effective.

Thanks for this, I am going to start my own little garden in the back yard!

Is kale and other greens something that dies off in the winter but will always grow back? Or will you have to keep replanting?

Voglio anch io un giardino!

I use the raised garden approach, which I have found to be quite versatile for those with smaller spaces. Grow herbs in pots is also great, and if your pot is small enough you can bring it inside for the winter as well. For any interested in growing ideas and growing nutrient dense food I would suggest the growingyourgreens youtube channel by John Kohler.

Hey Whitney :)
My mother and I starte growing our own food at home. He have Zuccinis, Eggplants, Tomatoes, Chillis, Beet roots, Green onions, Potatoes, Salads, Shiso leaves, many Herbs, Figs, Pears, Cherries and some more i forgot to list.
We learned from a book but it's in german. It basically tells you how when and where to grow your foods.
Also we lerned from experience and from other people who do the same.
It's very relaxing and comforting to have those foods in the own garden. That gives the garden a whole new look.
I love that we started this, out fruits and veggies taste the best! :D
Btw, I love your series, they are very interesting and helpful, thank you for that :) -
Love your shirt Whitney! Thank you for the tips Sarah. This was my first summer attempting to grow my own organic produce. I got some nice tomatoes, leeks and cucumber but the plants seemed to suffer as the season went on despite enough sun and water. Is compost the best fertilizer? When I went searching in stores for an organic fertilizer/feed all I found was bone meal fertilizer....which is not vegan. Any suggestions?

It was offered to me a lemon tree in a vase. And it's been so wonderful to take the small lemons and use it on my home cooking. I'd love to have more plants in my balcony. My constraint is the cold, which forces me to bring everything inside, and lack of sun light. I will probably plant some tomatoes next spring!
I am not vegan/vegetarian, but I love your overall message and I am trying to improve my lifestyle in general. You seem like a very sensible and trustworthy person. -
Love this! I'm on my 3rd year of a veggie garden. Year one everything died. Year two one tomato plant lived and produced food. This year I have a gigantic zucchini plant, tomato plant and 2 bell pepper plants. It certainly helps us save money at the grocery store! We also have our own chickens because my husband loves eggs and I refused to buy them ;) but gardening is so rewarding and there's nothing like harvesting food that you grew from nothing!

I have a garden in my backyard. This year I've grown lettuce, spring onions, tomatoes, kale, collard greens, green beans, carrots, cucumbers, edamame, red cabbage, corn, green peppers, and Brussels sprouts. I also have a few containers where I grow basil, parsley, and cilantro. I love growing my own food--it is so satisfying and rewarding!

I had not gardened in years but decided to buy 3 Smart Pots in the Spring. I planed 1 cherry tomato plant, 1 beef steak tomato plant and a red pepper plant. The cherry tomato plant has gone wild and we have supplied 3 neighbors plus our daughter and her family and us with cherry tomatoes all summer and I dehydrated some because we had so many. The other tomato plant and pepper plant did fair. We used Smart Pots so we didn't have to dig up the yard as it is difficult for us. Thanks, Linda
