How To Grow Sweet Corn, Courgettes/Zucchini And Beans (The Three Sisters)
Tips, Tricks
Why mix all these together I hear you ask.......well Sweet Corn and Courgettes/Zucchini are very hungry nitrogen plants and deplete the soil of this very important nutrient. On the other hand the beans (or peas) actually do the opposite and put nitrogen back into the soil....so by planting these together hopefully we will have a happy balance of nutrients. This combination of plants is often referred to as 'The Three Sisters', which is an ancient method of gardening. Sometimes this is done in a mound or hill but I plant all of mine level and it works! http://gardenofyvonne.wordpress.com

Have you ever had issues with borers invading your squash plants even if they are surrounded by corn plants? Hoping the corn plants disguise the squash plants from the borers.

I have just sowed my sweet corn, and my Hokaido pumpkin and courgette plants are coming along well in pots prior to planting as you did. I was surprised that you didn't use runner beans, but a mixture of peas and beans is certainly a good idea.

You can actually bury the corn as deep as a foot up that stalk. We do what they call "lay by" in the south, Lay fertilizer near the corn stalks and move the dirt up over the fertilizer and hill it up against the plants. It gives the corn more support and puts the fertilizer where the roots can get to it. Love your accent and your channel! Chuck
