How to Grow Strawberries in Containers VS Ground

1. What potting mix do you think might be best to get. I am in New Zealand.
2. LOL!...before the squirrel gets it....Gardeners know squirrels don't like to share :+)
3. do you mean to say that if we grow strawberries in container we will get less strawberries but fast ! and if we plant in ground we will get more of strawberries but it will take longer time ... pls reply ...
4. I have found feeding with high nitrogen is good to get the plant up and running......when near flowering and fruiting....feed with high potassium to encourage more flowers and bigger fruit.
5. Nice! I have one plant in a container, and it has already bloomed and produced some nice strawberries (i am in Virginia). I am looking for info on the best way to prune the plant so it's in the right shape for the late Summer/early Fall bloom. When i bought the plant it already had some flowers. Not sure how old it is. It's a 'Berri Basket White' everbearing. Thanks in advance.
6. Your ground berries seem small due to the soil they are in, it doesn't look like premium soil like the soil in the pots.

   My experience was a bit different.
   I am here in NW Indiana and we get snow during the winter.
   My strawberries in pots did not survive the winter--my fault, didn't protect them properly!
   My strawberries in the ground survived and are doing reasonably well---lots of leaves, one or two flowers, no strawberries.
   I was surprised that they survived about two feet of snow!
   So, I am going to take good care of these in the ground and protect them this coming winter (2016)
   I may still try the pots, now that I know a bit more about how to do it!

11. Ok so i just got strawberries in a container and I hung them up.. I water them almost every day (I feel the soil to see if it's wet ) but for some reason all my strawberries are turning brown and dying is this a bug/bird problem? I have had these strawberries for about 2 months and I haven't gotten any decent strawberries! (Because the keep dying )

16. That is one handsome plant! Here in Michigan if I grow them in containers, I have to bring them inside during the winter or they will freeze out. I had a stacked container tower FULL of beautiful strawberry plants 2 years ago and lost all of them to the cold. Oddly enough though, a couple of runners had rooted into the ground at the base of the tower and those 3 plants survived. Very sad. Lesson learned. I envy your California growing season.
