After a bit of trial and error, I found that the best way to grow a new grass on your lawn is to dig up all the old grass/weed, then replace the dirt with fresh garden soil, spread grass seeds, then put a light layer of sand and keep it moist for about 3-5 days straight until new grass grows. Try to do a small section at a time instead of trying to do your who backyard, that way you do it right. This is still work in progress but will have an updated video when I am finished growing new grass on my backyard. Also, you want to get the right type of grass. I prefer Perennial Ryegrass mixed with Kentucky Bluegrass. Ryegrass tend to form deep root and grow straight up while bluegrass tends to form shallow roots but grow sideways, they are very good match for its other and great combo for draught/beating grass diseases. And don't buy those ready-made patches of grass, those are filled with a bunch of fescue seeds. My grass will be much softer and very green and also much cheaper to grow your own grass from seeds.
