another quick video log of how I planted my Japanese maple in a container. The tree was originally labeled as "Green Cascase", but I believe it was an error and it should have been the Lion's Head. Enjoy and feel free to comment

I have the same variety and it was labeled Seiryu when I bought it last year. After the purchase I transplanted it into a pot with moisture control soil and it did fine. My problem is that it is now May first and though it has healthy foliage there is not nearly as much as there was last year. I used Osmocote since the last freeze was about a week ago and I hope it helps. I do not want to disturb the roots at all in this state because I love the tree. Any tips?
For sure, this is Acer palmatum "Shishigashira." I have no idea how the nursery could mistake it for anything else. It's unique, unlike any other maple.
I have a lions head (i think) which I picked up for a fantastic price and I had it in my north facing patio that receives late afternoon and evening sun. It was too much and the leaves singed and curled in late summer. I lost the autumn colours so I moved it across to a slightly shadier spot where I hope it will do well this year.
I got one of these plants today, The leaves got my attention so nice! the label I got with it says: Japanese Maple - Acer Palmatum "Shishigashira" - Lions Head Maple "Small bright green leaves curl tightly against branches. Densely packed leaves create a striking appearance on the dwarf, upright tree which turns brilliant gold with some red and pink shades in autumn" thanks for posting!! :)
