I started some green onions in water and in two weeks put them in the ground and they are not growing at all. what did I do wrong ?

I eat the whole thing except the roots.
We put them in many dishes or just dip them in a little salt and munch them. -

i just put my store bought green onions in a cup of water on the windowsill and they grow great no soil needed the roots just form a huge nest and suck up all the water they need to grow.

My dear you are supposed to cut off the tops and leave the bottom about 2" and then plant them. They will then grow again. I have at least 100 planted this way and I am getting so many I keep freezing them for the winter. I even made ups a few pots and gave them to friends they were thrilled.. lol
