Kim, I am not far from you (in the OC) and wonder when you actually plant your egg plants, peppers and tomatoes outside. I have heard late April is best for our region.

High temperatures cause no fruiting in egg plant?

Can't wait to see the harvest video :)

Just discovered your YouTube channel. Loving it so far. Wish I saw your video prior to planting eggplant for the first time this year...lol.

I just started mine in a black container, it was already grown-up, but no fruit yet. how long will it keep for. I'm in San Fernando Valley, California. Should I put a black bag over it in winter? please let me know.

Kim, what a pleasure to find your videos! Great information! I'm interested in how you terraced that slope. Was that a DIY project or did a contractor do that? If DIY, what were the steps you went through? I have a slope next to my house (back patio, actually) and I'm interested in terracing it off into planting spaces. Not as steep as yours, but would still make great beds.
Thanks! Good Gardening from Louisiana! -
I also started my eggplant from seed. I had no warm up pads, but I do have a hanging grow light in my garage. I transplanted them little by little in larger starter pots as they got bigger. Three days ago they were planted in ground and doing Great!

If you are growing Organic... NEVER Use Black Plastic! The Chemical make up of Plastic, can and will leach into your soil, thus feeding your plants those chemicals. Results, no organic garden, as well as plants not being as healthy, and they look like it.

What are the name of the flower behind you. I have the same kind that I started from Seed but lost the package they came in.

hey, I love you videos. I have Done all my planting using your videos. I have a question, my eggplant plant is growing very well. the only problem I have with it is that it grow flowers and then the flowers just fall off. at first I thought I needed to hand pollinate which I did but it still didn't work. idk what to do?

I haven't even got mine in the ground yet-TX has a long grow season, so I'm not too worried. I do have one of the variety you planted here-Long Ping Tung-that I overwintered in a planter. When I pulled it out, it still had one withered little eggplant and two leaves hanging on it (spider mites). I removed the dead eggplant, stuck the whole container in my compost tea vat and let it load up, then sprayed it down really well with neem & kept it watered. Within two days I could see a big difference.
That was maybe three weeks or a month ago. I've kept it watered, with an occasional weak splash of compost tea. It has six eggplants on it already and more flowering. They are already about 6 inches long. I had read about overwintering peppers, so thought I'd try it with eggplant. I got busy & kind of neglected it, but it survived better than my peppers and is doing really well! Strangely, after spraying the one time with neem for the spider mites, there is not a sign of them! The leaves are as healthy as can be.
I will probably try to overwinter it again and see how it does with better care. Just a note in case anyone wants to try this with eggplant! -
Thanks so much for this informative video! So many things you mentioned were things I didn't know. I will have to start them inside next year. I will have to get a heat mat for the peppers anyway so I can start the eggplants too. I didn't have a heat mat this year for starting my peppers and they took forever to germinate!

Good video. Thank you!

Unfortunately we can't grow them in Calgary. Tried a few times, no one carries plants anymore. Love them cooked with potatoes, make pakora, or thick soup or spice filled-in.
