All the parts that must be manipulated to pollinate are fairly large and can be easily handled. Because of this, getting started in hybridizing your own daylilies is very easy. One question I am frequently asked is if seeds are available to grow a specific cultivar. Sorry, but the answer is no. Even seeds resulting from a plant that was fertilized with it's own pollen will not produce plants that are identical to the parent plant. While the likelyhood is that the plant will be quite similar, usually it will not bloom as well and sometimes the bloom will be completely different than the parent.

do you leave them in the hex seedling tray till 10months? or do you increase the pot size before then

My question is--If I start the growing process now, where do I store the planted seedlings come fall and winter if it takes about 10 months before transplanting? Do they need a lighting system for the winter? Thank you.

enjoyed the series. will these steps also work for Tiger Liliy plants? I'm not looking to cross pollinate at this time but want to increase the number of plants I have. I have plenty of orange ones but just got a few yellow, red and peach ones. btw, do you know if I can divide the root bulbs to get more plants? the couple red ones have a bunch of roots on them. ty, John :-)
