Rooting carrot tops is something I learned 40 years ago. It is great fun to be a kid and watch a leftover piece of vegetable grow with a little water. A great thing to teach any kid. It always works but it just grows roots and new leaves. To my knowledge, it does not regrow an actual carrot. But, to be fair, maybe you can grow it to seed and then get carrots from the seeds.?

Hmmm.. Thanks for sharing this. Did cutting the carrot 1" a necessary thing to do? I planted 3 in my home back yard, I put the entire carrots in the soil. I want carrots!

I don't know what your guy friends are telling you with regard to inches, but that was not an inch you cut off of that carrot. It was maybe half an inch at most.
